Skid Row is a neighborhood in Los Angeles, California that holds on of the largest stabe populations of homeless people in the United States. There has been efforts- although very minimal- from the state to end the homelessness on skid row. However, between 2018 to 2019 there has been an 11% increase in the population and only continues to rise especially with the Covid pandemic. In 2018 a few friends and I went out to distribute care kits, sandwiches, and supplies. While there, I documented what I saw and the people I talked to. Homelessness is a huge problem in America, and yet as many people preach about needing to put an end to it, there doesn't seem to be any change happening. Homelessness and skid row doesn't just happen by accident, and people seem to just turn a blind eye to it. Decades of bad public policy decisions, housing discrimination, economic disparity, mental health service failures and institutional racism create Skid Row.
