Just When I Think I’m Winning is a three-channel video performance installation presented at Syracuse University’s 2024 Art Photography BFA exhibition: Coming and Going. The installation explores symbolism, protest, and trauma management in art.

There is that saying: when you are born in a burning house, you think the whole world is on fire. But what happens when one escapes the burning house and realizes that the house on fire was the safest place to be? With constant societal pressure, debilitating anxiety, enforced gender roles, and wars and genocides emerging every day, it is all just too much. I am young right now and living in a problematic time. Just When I Think I’m Winning uses performance to discuss the darker side of the human experience, evoking ways in which pain, trauma, and society are all worked out into one. In these large-scale videos, I force viewers to stare up at me, engaging them in a battle of conflicting emotions: desire and revulsion, fear and fascination.
