Performance, single channel video

In this performance, I went to a quarry and gathered up a bunch of rocks to break using only tools that I have found, with the exception of a sledgehammer that I brought. Among the tools were a rusty pipe, chains, crowbars, buckets, and other rocks. The destruction of the rocks heavily contrasted the calmness of the background and my white dress. Through this performance, I challenged the idea of the balance between destruction, life, and beauty. Often times, whenever we see something beautiful, we tend to leave it untouched as a way to preserve it but in turn, we take away life from it. Life is chaotic and one can usually tell human life has existed if there are footprints on the ground, something is broken, etc. Because we are so fixated on beauty, we forget to appreciate it in the moment and give it life.
